HS Fine artsThe visual and performing arts program at Gospel Light Christian School offers tremendous opportunities for Elementary and High school students to share and refine their God given gifts and talents. We believe that each child is uniquely and wonderfully created in God’s image and we foster and encourage the development of these talents through participation in the many offerings of our Fine Arts program.

All elementary students receive art and music instruction once per week for 45 minutes. Included in the art curriculum are various creative and challenging projects which teach students formal elements of art and principles of art. Likewise, the elements of music are infused in curriculum directed instruction. In music class, students explore music through movement, instrument playing, music games, listening to music, and note and rhythm reading activities.

Elementary students have the opportunity to participate in many events throughout the school year. Chorus and band are optional activities in which students 3rd-6th can be involved. Musical performances include chapel services, fine arts competition, and special trips to sing or play at places such as retirement communities. 3rd-6th students’ art projects can also be selected to compete in the NCCSA Fine Arts Competition. Drama is encouraged through various categories of competition in which students can choose to compete. Additionally, students in 4th-6th grade learn to play the recorder.

In High School, students may choose electives in art, band, or choir. In addition to many creative art projects using a variety of media, High School students learn the relevance of art in their lives, how they can honor God through their creativity, and how art can be used in other areas of their academic lives. High School students can audition for small groups Rejoice (7th-9th grade) and Encore (10th-12th grade) These groups perform throughout the school year in school sponsored events and community based events.

Gospel Light Christian School is a member of the North Carolina Christian School Association (NCCSA). Each year we prepare and send students from third grade thru 12th to participate in the spring Fine Arts competition in categories such as Bible, Speech, Music, Band and Art. High School state winners then have the opportunity to go to Bob Jones University to compete on a National level.

8th Grade students have a period of Introduction to drama and Introduction to Art. Additionally all High school students complete a required speech class.

High School students can also audition for the school play held each year. Students and faculty both work diligently to produce a quality play to all to enjoy.

Private piano and instrument instruction is also available by request.
