January 20, 2010—GLCS Announces King and Queen
For
over thirty years Gospel Light Christian School in Walkertown has held an annual Homecoming event. Homecoming at GLCS includes basketball
games and a “court” which recognizes students from 1st-12th grade. This year’s Homecoming games and court was set for December 19th,
but due to the snow was postponed until January 8th.
Gospel Light welcomed back alumni, recognized faculty and staff, and applauded
the arrival of the reigning 2008-09 King, Queen, Prince, and Princess. The Varsity men’s team played a tough game against Fellowship
from Durham, losing by only 5 points. As soon as the game was over, the court, themed “Winter Wonderland Express” began. As tradition
at Gospel Light, the senior class nominated four couples from their class to represent the grade. The 9th -12th grades voted by secret
ballot, choosing from the senior couples a King, Queen, Prince and Princess. Among the seniors nominated were Ashton Mitchell, Hannah
Riddle, David Overby, and Andrew Kroll. The evening was complete as the drum roll sounded and the MC enthusiastically announced Gospel
Light’s new Prince: Robert Warta, Princess: Paige Rice, King: Nick Decker, and Queen: Rachel Anzivino.
We had a great night and
the Lord blessed. A special thanks to the Student Council for coordinating the court and to all the students and parents who volunteered
to help set-up and clean-up the court!
December 11, 2009--GLCS Wins "Rudolph" Award in the Kernersville Parade
Gospel Light
Christian School entered the Kernersville Christmas Parade for the first time ever on Sunday December 6. The float was decorated with
Christmas trees, a large snowman, and park benches. The Varsity and JV Cheerleaders led the float that carried Gospel Light's Student
Council and Band Ensemble. ENCORE walked the parade route singing "Winter Wonderland" and "Carol of the Bells". The town of Kernersville
awarded Gospel Light with the "Rudolph Award" for best non-commercial float.
The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce posted the
following on their web site. "This year we have started to recognize well decorated floats and vehicles, as well as performing groups
in the parade. There is no monetary award for the selection of these awards. We want all parade participants to know they
have done their part to enhance the community spirit at Christmas time. We hope that this recognition will stimulate an enhancement
of the parade. A panel of judges viewed the entire parade and made their choices to be recognized. The Kernersville News
will run photos of the groups that we selected." There were three awards given: the Rudolph Award (best decorated non-commercial float),
the Prancer Award (best musical/dance group), and the Blitzen Award (best decorated commercial award). "The Gospel Light parade entry
opened with a banner carried by cheerleaders dressed in their red cheerleading outfits. The float was attractively decorated
for Christmas with carolers on the float."
A well-deserved congratulations to all the participants from Gospel Light and
to the Student Council and teachers who helped create the whole float!
